Adventure FAQ: Essential Info
1. Hiring & Age Restrictions
-
Watersports & Standard Bikes: There is no set age limit for rentals. It is up for the parent or guardian to decide if they have enough experience to take out children or those not experienced. For those young children who are not paddling there may be space to sit between the legs of an adult on the kayaks. A £10 fee applies in this scenario. For example a parent and child on a single kayak would be (£40 + £10) or two parents plus child on a tandem would be (£70 + £10) If you are unsure give us a call and we can assist.
-
E-Bikes: Minimum age is 14+ (UK legal requirement).
-
Supervision: Under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 16 and 17-year-olds can hire and explore without on-water/on-path supervision.
- Guided Tours: Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, max two under 18s per parent or guardian. The minimum age on a private tour is suggested at age 8 but please get in touch to discuss.
-
Ability: All kayak hire customers must be able to swim 25m and be comfortable falling into the water. All stand up paddleboard hire customers must have prior experience and ability to paddle in a range of conditions.
2. Previous Experience (SUP)
Stand-up Paddleboarding is a technical activity. For safety on the loch, we require all SUP hire customers to have previous paddling experience. Total beginners are encouraged to book a Private Discovery Session or opt for our very stable sit-on-top kayaks.
3. Weather & Cancellations
-
Rain: We operate in most weather conditions—the scenery is often at its best in the rain! We provide high-quality wetsuits and booties to keep you warm. We do not offer refunds for rain or cold.
-
Safety Cancellations: We only cancel sessions if we deem conditions to be unsafe (e.g., extreme wind or lightning). If we cancel for safety, you receive a full refund.
-
Customer Cancellations: We do not offer refunds if you choose to cancel, but we will always try to reschedule your booking to another time if availability allows.
4. Can I bring my Dog?
-
Kayaks: Yes! Our solid plastic kayaks are dog-friendly. You are responsible for your dog’s safety and comfort.
-
Paddleboards: No. To protect our inflatable boards from damage, dogs are not permitted on SUPs.
5. Why are sessions a minimum of 2 hours?
Glencoe is far too beautiful to rush! Our 2-hour minimum ensures you have enough time to receive a proper safety briefing, get kitted up, and actually reach the islands or the best viewpoints without feeling hurried.
6. What should I bring?
-
Watersports: Just a swimsuit for under your wetsuit and a towel for afterwards. We have on-site changing rooms at the Isles of Glencoe Hotel.
-
Biking: Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
7. Do you offer group discounts?
We offer 10% off for groups of 7 or more. Please get in touch via email to arrange a group booking.
